Why Humans Are Still Needed For AIl

AI’s prominence as the most popular new piece of tech has caused it to rapidly evolve and grow as more try to get a piece of the AI pie. Research into AI has more than doubled since 2010 and funding for AI private investments was 18 times higher in 2022 than in 2013. In the past 10 years, the number of newly funded AI startups has nearly tripled. Adoption of AI into millions of businesses around the world has already begun and as much as 25% of US businesses already contain an AI element. Over 60% of us already expect our lives to change in a significant way because of AI in just the next 3 to 5 years. Much of the recent attention can be attributed to ChatGPT, which has become the fastest growing application in history as it hit 100 million active users in January 2023 alone.

With many new people becoming interested in AI, the myth of ‘human free’ AI has propagated. However, without human intervention, AI falls short of its true potential and can make costly and serious mistakes. While some mistakes such as an AI soccer camera tracking a player’s bald head instead of the ball may be harmless, AI for self-driving cars or identifying criminals making such large mistakes can be disastrous.
